2006 Peugeot 206SW

This car was one of the last 500 Peugeots to come off the production line at the Ryton factory in Coventry. The last 206 was completed on December 12th 2006, thus ending 59 years of continuous car manufacturing at the Ryton plant. It also marked the end of large scale automobile manufacturing in the City of Coventry – a proud and unique heritage going right back to the birth of the UK motor industry in Coventry in 1896.
During its time the Ryton plant produced some of the most famous Rootes Group, Chrysler UK and Peugeot models.
This new vehicle was very generously donated to the Museum by PSA Peugeot Citroën in 1986.

Peugeot 309

The Peugeot 309 was originally intended to be named the Talbot Arizona, and this accounts for its styling differing from the 205 and 405 models of the same era. However, it was decided to sell the car as a Peugeot.

The 309 was a significant car for Coventry as it was the first Peugeot car to be assembled in the former Rootes factory in Ryton-on-Dunsmore, which Peugeot had inherited from Chrysler Europe in 1978. Further models such as the 405, 306 and 206 were also assembled at Ryton.

Production of the 309 commenced in October 1985 and deliveries commenced in the next year. It became a popular choice in the United Kingdom.

Peugeot 206 WRC

The Peugeot 206 was a frequent competitor in World Rally Championship events. The car on display is a replica, minus engine and interior fittings, of an actual rally car. On behalf of Peugeot UK it was generously placed in the Museum by Mick Linford, manager of Peugeot’s Coventry Sport Division, following the Division’s closure in 2004.

1985 Peugeot 205 T16 Rally Car

This is the actual vehicle driven to victory by Michael Sundstrom in the Scottish International Rally of 1986. It is a Group B Rally Specification car and is an early example of the 205 T16 that ultimately went on to become a legend in its own lifetime due to its racing success.

The 16 valve engine fitted to the T16’s is the basis of the Peugeot 405 Mi 16 engine. The vehicle was most generously placed with the Museum by the Peugeot Talbot Company in 1988 through its Director of Motor Sport, Des O’Dell.
