M-Sport’s Ford Fiesta models dominated the world of rallying this weekend with a whole host of wins and podiums for the Ford Fiesta RRC, S2000 and R2.
In the Intercontinental Rally Challenge, Giandomenico Basso and Mitia Dotta piloted their Ford Fiesta RRC to their second victory in this year’s series at the 2012 Rallye Sanremo. Leading from the first stage, the Italian duo maintained their lead to clinch the win by over half a minute. The victory also saw Basso launched into fourth place in the overall standings having contested just four of the 12 events to date.
Elsewhere in the Middle East Rally Championship (MERC), M-Sport dominated the 2012 Jordan Rally. Taking to the wheel of the Ford Fiesta RRC, Nasser Al-Attiyah and Giovanni Bernacchini claimed the win ahead of fellow Fiesta RRC drivers Roger Feghali and Yazeed Al-Rajhi to affect a clean-sweep of the podium for Ford. The victory marked the Qatari’s sixth in Jordan and 43rd in the MERC.
Also this weekend, Castrol Ford Team Turkey wrapped up the East European Rally Cup as Yağız Avcı and Bahadır Gücenmez piloted their Ford Fiesta S2000 to a podium finish at the 45th Rally Serbia. The result propels the team into the history books as the first Turkish team to win a European Rally Championship.
In other news, the Ford Fiesta S2000 of Herman Kobus and Erik de Wild finished first in class and second overall on the Rally Land van Altena in the Netherlands behind fellow Ford crew Jeroen Swaanen and Robin Buysmans in their Ford Focus RS WRC ’08.
The Ford Fiesta R2 also had marked success with John MacCrone and Stuart Loudon securing class victory and second overall on the Tunnock’s Mull Rally and Xavier Baugnet and Johan Jalet clinching class victory in a similar car at this weekend’s Rallye de Luxemburg.
