Italian rally driver Edoardo Bresolin and his co-driver Rudy Pollet put in another excellent performance in the FIA Wordl Rally Championship (WRC) at the tenth round of the season at Wales Rally GB this weekend.
The crew from Bassano del Grappa exceeded all expectations and repeated the successes they achieved at Neste Oil Rally Finland last month.
Piloting his Ford Fiesta Regional Rally Car (RRC) with support from M-Sport, Bresolin put in a sterling performance – adapting to the continuous changes in weather and rough gravel the likes of which he has never before contested.
The night before Friday’s tests – which included 140 km of special stages – heavy rain fell on the stages making them very slippery and treacherous.
The crew chose a risk free strategy for the first day – making it to the end of the day without error so as to push harder on Day 2 when the stages would be much drier. Even despite his cautious appraoch, Bresolin lay a credible 19th overall at the end of Day 1.
The second day of competition included seven special stages, all on dry gravel. Thanks to their work on a pre-event test with M-Spor engineer, Stefan Liesker, Bresolin and Pollet were more comfortable with this type of ground and recovered 16th place overall.
The third and final day saw a return to the tricky wet conditions and was very slippery. Learning from his Day 1 experience, Bresolin opted for a softer set-up – a choice which proved to be right and helped him secure 15th place overall at the end of the rally. Mission accomplished!
Alongside Finland, Wales Rally GB is one of the most difficult events on the calendar for ‘Latin’ drivers and Bresolin, with intelligence and tenacity, has collected two fantastic results on these challenging rallies.
Thanks to the sponsors that allowed participation in these events in the WRC, M-Sport and the Friulmotor for technical support.
