Andreas Mikkelsen’s 43-point lead in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge remains unchanged after Round 10 of the series, the Prime Yalta Rally, took place in Ukraine.
One of the key features behind the on-going success of the IRC is the allowance in the regulations for teams and drivers to pick and choose what events they contest. With drivers able to count their best 8 scores out of a possible 13 only, ŠKODA UK Motorsport decided not to include the trip to Yalta in the defending IRC champion’s schedule for 2012, having already contested all 9 rounds of the series so far this year.
Despite the absence of the familiar factory-prepared ŠKODA UK Motorsport Fabia S2000, Andreas continues to lead the Drivers’ championship and his navigator, Ola Fløene, heads the Co-drivers’ standings.
With ŠKODA Motorsport duo Juho Hänninen and Jan Kopecký, and ŠKODA Deutschland’s Sepp Wiegand, missing the Yalta Rally too, ŠKODA was well represented by Hungarian driver László Vizin, who recorded his first IRC podium finish with 3rd in his Fabia S2000.
