Dani Oliveira hit the asphalt in Austria

Daniel Oliveira and Carlos Magalhaes returned to the Austrian asphalt roads in the Rallye Weiz as preparation for their next WRC challenge in Germany late this month.

The BWRT pair entered the sixth round of the Austrian Rally Championship in a Ford Fiesta RCC serviced by the Stohl Racing team, a car which is practically the same Oliveira usually drives in the WRC although featurin g a 30mm engine restrictor and some aerodynamics changes.

Today there was a short opening leg which comprised four stages and 54.72 competitive kilometres. Unfortunately for the Brazilian driver and his Portuguese navigator, their day was shorter than expected.

After completing the SS1 with the second fastest time, Oliveira damaged the gearbox radiator and the suspension in a crash into a traffic sign. He was able to complete the section but had to drop out of the rally immediately after crossing the finish line.

Oliveira will not be re-entering the competition and now will wait for the Trier-based event which will take place on August 24th-26th.

“It was a shame not being able to run more kilometres in this rally. We expected to do it better. This is how our history here in Austria ended and now it’s time to prepare us for Germany” said Oliveira.
