M-Sport offer marshals a chance to swap places and navigate

In support of the MIA and National Motorsport Week, M-Sport are offering marshals in the north of England a once in a life time opportunity to navigate a stage alongside the company’s managing director and former British Rally Champion, Malcolm Wilson OBE, in his historic specification Ford Escort Mk2.

The aim of National Motorsport Week is simple: to provide a platform to reach out and inspire newscomers to motorsport and generate more interest, more spectators, more competitors, more jobs, more marshals and more officials.

Supporting the dedication and commitment displayed by marshals throughout the UK, M-Sport are delighted to provide the experience in appreciation of all marshals’ commitment and dedication to the sport – without whom rallying as we know it would not be possible – whilst providing a rare insight into the often overlooked demands of a co-driver.

The Mk2 Escort has enjoyed considerable success in its long and prestigious history. Continuing its predecessor’s unbeaten run on the RAC Rally – winning every year from 1975 to 1979 – the model has claimed victory on a number of events around the world and transported Björn Waldegård and Ari Vatanen to the WRC Drivers’ titles in 1979 and 1981 respectively.

Wilson’s Escort Mk2 was built in 2008 for the end of season, historic Roger Albert Clark Rally – an event which Wilson and co-driver John Millington won with 14 stage victories.

Wilson will be running his Mk2 Escort as course car on the Greystoke Stages in Cumbria on Sunday 8th July. With only two places available, those wishing to swap the marshals’ tabard for the navigators’ notes should send an email to enquiries@m-sport.co.uk before 12 noon on Wednesday 4 July listing their contact details and motor club with whom we will confirm marshal status.

Those selected at random will be informed via email no later than Thursday 5 July and must be available to attend the event on 8 July. Good luck!

In addition, one place will also be auctioned to the public via the MIA with all proceeds going to the Motorsport Foundation. For more information on how to place your bid, visit http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110906512120
