Daniel Sordo & Prodrive MINI win in Corsica

Prodrive WRC Team driver, Dani Sordo won this weekend’s Corsica Rally, securing victory in the latest round of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge (IRC) in a Prodrive-prepared MINI John Cooper Works S2000. This was Sordo’s debut in the IRC, who more usually competes in the World Rally Championship, and was his first major international rally victory.

Sordo spent the first part of the rally in a close fight with A-Style Ford driver Giandomenico Basso and championship leader Andreas Mikkelsen (Skoda UK). But after Basso was eliminated in a road section incident on Thursday night and Mikkelsen lost nearly three minutes with a Friday morning excursion, Sordo was free to control the pace for the rest of the rally. In the end he won by 17.9 sec from Jan Kopecky in the Skoda.

By winning the event, Sordo has helped show the competitiveness of Prodrive’s newly upgraded S2000 car.

Sordo will return to the World Rally Championship in June with the Prodrive WRC Team in the MINI John Cooper Works WRC.
