Colin McRae IRC Flat Out Trophy success for Jan Kopecky in Corsica

Jan Kopecký has won the Colin McRae IRC Flat Out Trophy for his charging display on the final day of Giru di Corsica-Tour de Corse.

Kopecký, in a ŠKODA Motorsport Fabia Super 2000, beat Pierre Campana in a close fight for second place by going fastest on five of Saturday’s six stages based north of Bastia.

The Czech, runner-up in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge for the last three seasons, was presented with the prestigious accolade, awarded on all rounds of the IRC to the driver who best embodies the spirit of the late rallying legend, by Jean-Pierre Nicolas, the IRC Manager at a presentation in Bastia’s city hall this evening.

He said: “As usual it’s always very difficult to choose when there is such a good fight in a rally. But after such a spectacular battle it’s only correct that the driver who won the battle gets the award.

A delighted Kopecký said: “In a way I am quite surprised to win this because I made some mistakes on the rally but finally it came good and I finished second after a big fight.”
