Second McRae IRC award for ace Thierry Neuville

Thierry Neuville has been chosen as the winner of the prestigious Colin McRae IRC Flat Out Trophy following his maiden Intercontinental Rally Challenge victory on Tour de Corse-E.Leclerc yesterday (Saturday).

Neuville was fastest on eight of the 14 special stages and only once dropped out of the lead in his Team Peugeot Belgium-Luxembourg 207 Super 2000. By winning, the 22-year-old became the youngest driver to triumph on a round of the IRC.

A panel of judges, consisting of Jean Pierre-Nicolas, the IRC’s Motorsport Development Manager, Gilbert Roy, the Director of Editorial and Programme Development for Eurosport Events and Jimmy McRae, Colin’s father, reached the decision. It was the second time in as many events that Neuville had won the award.

“Thierry’s performance was exceptional with eight fastest stage times,” said Nicolas. “It was a very difficul decision and there was a lot of hesitation over whether to choose Thierry or a certain young Corsican driver Pierre Campana, who also did very well. But in the end Thierry’s performance means he deserves this award more than any other driver.

The Colin McRae IRC Flat Out Trophy is presented on all rounds of the IRC to the driver who best embodies the spirit of the rallying legend.
